Hi Everyone :)

First of all, let me introduce myself, i'am Olivier, i am french and i moved to Latvia last year. So i live in Riga now :) (and i love it!)
Last december i bought a vaz 2101 in order to renovated it completely, i'd like to make it perfect :)
Of course i could not do everything on it, so i posted this message to get some advices :)
As the weather is getting better, i started working on it. I put off the back bumper and the tow hook ( i put off a part of the electric wire wich provided electricity on it)
Next i will change the brakes (front and back) and the candle.

Actually i heard about shops specialized in vaz spare part in Riga. Does anyone could say me where could i find them?
I was wondering is there are mechanics who are specialized in old vaz in Riga? or if you know very good adresses, your advices are welcome :)
And if anyone knows how it cost to repaint a car entirely?

Well thanks for all your advices!! and sorry that my latvian is not good enough to write in latvian but i'am still learning it! :)

Hi!

One of the most popular soviet cars spare parts shop in Riga is located on the Lienes street 2.

56.954526, 24.144648 (Lienes street 2)

But you can pay only in cash there.

I think, in Riga there are no specialised services, where guys working only with old cars. You need to find some kind of little garage near your place, and ask to the mechanic. But in this site are many of hopeful enthusiasts, just need to know - where is your car, and do you have your own garage?

Hi, Oliver!

First of all - let me congratulate you with moving to Latvia and I hope You will have wonderful time living here in our capital

And now to the case. As mates mentioned before, most popular shop for lada parts is located on Lienes iela 2, but you need to take two facts under consideration before going to that shop:

1. as mentioned before - you can't pay with credit card - cash only
2. the seller most likely don't speak in English, so I strongly recomend to take some Latvian speaking friend with you :)

Lot of parts for suspension like ball joints I buy online-shop on http://www.eparts.lv - they oftenly have the best prices, but you have wait from 1-2 days till they bring parts form warehouse to office to Kārļa Ulmaņa gatve 123 where you can pick them up, other delivery options aviable as well.

Another great shop is Baltic autoparts (not an online shop) - http://www.bap.lv, prices are a bit higher, but it's typical shop - so go and buy what you need. Located on Lielirbes iela 32a.

I recommend not to buy Russian made ball joint, because quality is really crappy IMHO

But for example you can't buy bushings for suspension arms and suspension arms itself in these two shops.

So the bottom line is - you need to know what you need, to know where to buy it :) Some parts you can buy from hand, here in Selling/buying section.

We need to see some pictures of the car to know it's condition, than we could suggest what should be done about the car it and maybe suggest some places or people who could do the restoring.

And of course, WELCOME TO OUR LADA ENTHUSIAST SOCIETY :draugi: :brauc:

Labdien :)

Thanks a lot for all of your answers! it's already very helpful!

So Nissans, yes i get my own garage, in stabu iela, not a big one but enough to work quietly. The bad point is that there is no electricity in, so i will have to do without and with manuals tools.

Thanks Nissans for all your informations! :) very nice from you! Actually i speak russian a bit, i think for simple stuff it could be ok :) . I will check that this saturday and will try to buy brakes and candles (disk, drums and pad) in Lienes Iela. I will say you how it was !

My final goal is to drive from Riga to Paris with the car :D

For the pictures sorry but i didnt manage to download them in the message. the good way to do it is by the "upload attachement" below the message right? I'd like to show you the old french car i get too (year 1953)

And thanks for you kindness!!

Hey, Oliver.

The best way to show us your photos is to upload them somewhere on upload websites (flickr.com for example) and then you just have to copy the image adress in your post.

Waiting for pictures.

Regards!
